Hometalk, Inc. Trends Report - February 2023

Love is in the air this month and creators are already blooming with ideas for spring.

Trending on the Hometalk Family of Sites

Here are the trends we're seeing across the Hometalk family of sites!

Hometalk Hits

Wishing for Warmer Days

Many of us are still watching the snow pile up outside our windows with nothing but our social media posts from the summer to keep us warm.

Don’t get stir-crazy waiting for the sun to come back out, get out your craft box and get an early start on those spring projects. Take advantage of these rainy days and build an Easy DIY Garden Rain Barrel like this one from Jen Svendsen. One of our most popular posts this time last year was this Pool Noodle Lighting Hack that Theartge used for their yard.

An Organized Home Is a Happy Home

Spring cleaning may be the saying, but it’s more than grabbing the broom and mop bucket. We’re seeing creators organize every room in their houses using all kinds of hacks. In this post, Jersey Girl Knows Best updates her closet by hanging her shoes.

There’s also a way to utilize the top of your cupboards, and Sunshine’s post shows how. When organizing your home, don’t rush out to buy containers. Sometimes you can turn unexpected items into something useful. This silverware caddy was made from Dollar store cups and a few other supplies. Go read Dawn Stewart’s post for the step-by-step.

Goodbye ‘Dry January’ 👋🏽

Did you start the year with 31 alcohol-free days like everyone else on the

#DryJanuary trend, or were you blissfully buzzed? If you missed the trend, don’t worry, it seems everyone is back to the booze because we’re seeing amazing alcoholic beverage recipes on Foodtalk. If you are not big into alcohol, you can turn any cocktail into a mocktail and share any great recipes you have on Foodtalk.

This Pineapple Matcha Margarita by Nicole at The Yummy Muffin looks like the perfect brunch drink and is even green for St. Patrick's Day next month.

Soups, Sandwiches, and Salads

I love a good alliteration, and luckily for me, the foodies are all about their soups, sandwiches, and salads right now. Brie cheese is proving it’s more than just a charcuterie board accessory and is again part of the latest trends. Have you tried the mouth-watering Brie Grilled Cheese recipe? This one is from The Darling Apron, and she puts jam in her sandwich. No sandwich is complete without a side soup; there are tons of recipes on Foodtalk. This Tuscan White Bean Soup by Lynn @ Nourish and Nestle was posted a couple weeks ago and is already in our top-performing posts for the year.

Upstyle Stars

Life Is Too Short To Have Boring Hair

The ladies of Upstyle have spoken, and hair is IN! This post by Shikha on how to get softer and shinier hair has over 21,000 views. Whether it’s hair DIY or hair tutorials, the ladies are eager to learn more. Glam Girl Gabi has a post on how to add extreme volume to fine hair. The trend isn’t new; we’ve been noticing an uptick in hair posts since the last half of 2022. In December, this hack for the best way to slick back baby hairs was one of our most popular posts.

I Know a Hack for That!

Hacks are life’s shortcuts, and who doesn’t love saving time and/or money? It’s no surprise we’re seeing all those famous TikTok hacks make their way to Upstyle. There are hacks for everything from how to zip your dress when you live alone to why you should put your cardigan on backwards! Before you go searching for each individual hack, take a look at round-up posts like 7 easy hair and beauty hacks so you can eliminate the failed ones without trying them yourself.

Wows from the Web

We’re bringing inspiration from all corners of the web. Here’s what we’re seeing trending online.

Perfect for Hometalk…

Redecorating on a Budget

Changing out the artwork around your home can get pricey. The Deeply Southern Home blog wanted the oil painting aesthetic without the price tag to match. Her blog post shares a genius hack for making any print look like this.

Perfect for Foodtalk…

Calling All Peanut Butter Lovers!

Peanut butter is a great way to add sweetness or protein to just about anything, from cookies to smoothies to sauces. March 1st is National Peanut Butter Lover’s Day, so show us your perfect peanut butter recipe.

Green Machine

Speaking of holidays coming up, St. Patrick’s Day is in March. So don’t forget to load up on green snacks to help balance that green beer. This all-green snack board is from Catherine at Weelicious.

Perfect for Upstyle…

Skip the Salon, Grab the Scissors

I don’t know if this is a trend I am bold enough to try. Still, I can absolutely appreciate the beauty in others’ DIY haircuts! It started as women cutting their own bangs on TikTok, and now we’re seeing people venture off to cut their own shag, wolf, layered, and ponytail-cut styles.
