Hometalk, Inc. Trends Report - November 2022

Updated: Nov 10, 2022

Hometalk, Inc. has a lot to be thankful for this year and YOU are top of that list. You’ll notice some Thanksgiving themed trends in this month’s post, but it’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas in Q4.

Trending on the Hometalk Family of Sites

Here are the trends we're seeing across social media and the Hometalk family of sites!

Hometalk Hits

Thoughtful & Thankful

Are you the host or guest this Thanksgiving? If you’re hosting a popular DIY to help decorate your home is this pumpkin shaped metal wreath at Dollar tree. Sunny Side Design created this pumpkin and their post shows step-by-step how.

Santa is Coming

It seems like as soon as the Thanksgiving dishes are washed the countdown to Christmas begins, but most of us really start counting with advent calendars beginning December 1st. Here is the most popular advent calendar post on Hometalk shared by Claire at Pillar Box Blue. She used tin cans and glued them together to form a Christmas tree.

We also want to see you get creative with Dollar Tree items. Click here to see the most beautiful giant lightbulb garland created with Dollar Tree trays. It doesn’t have to be garland, Gleespen Designs shared this tutorial on how to make a light-up snowman using Dollar Tree items.

Foodtalk Faves

Inclusive Thanksgiving Sides

About 7% of the U.S. population has an allergy to gluten and cannot eat certain foods without getting sick. That’s why we’re seeing a trend in traditional side dishes with a twist. For example, look at this Gluten Free Dairy Free Corn Casserole by Return to the Kitchen.

Gluten is not the only dietary restriction, with more people turning to vegetarian and vegan lifestyles you might consider this Cauliflower Mac and Cheese on Foodtalk.

Soups, slow cookers and soothing foods

Time to grab grandma’s recipe book out and share that famous soup recipe you love so much! We’re seeing more readers searching for feel-good warm meals they can make in one pot or just let the crockpot do all the work.

Naomi Cook describes her Creamy Potato Sausage and Kale Soup as “warm, hearty and filling enough to be the meal of the holidays” in her Foodtalk post. Believe it or not, the Cheddar Chowder by Nicole - The Yummy Muffin takes 20 minutes total with prep and cook time! That’s probably why that post has more than 65,000 views.

Upstyle Stars

Designer Dupes

Sivian Perez Malul is one of the creators on Upstyle who loves to DIY her own looks. She created this fake $1,000 jacket and you probably already have all the materials you need in your home! We are seeing an uptick in designer dupes and we are here for it because “thanks I made it” will have everyone wanting your outfit even more!

Bra hacks, tips and tricks

When was the last time you bought a new bra? If you visit Leilani Kyrie’s profile you’ll notice she has a few posts that have bra tips; they range from sizing, how to put on a bra, and do’s and don'ts. We’re noticing Upstyle readers like peeling it back a layer and learning about proper undergarments care too, her latest post on the correct way to put on a bra gathered over 25,000 views!

Unique fall hairstyles

Thanksgiving is this month and once you’re done worrying about decorating your house then you’ll have to dress the family! Does your family go casual or all out for the holiday? We’re noticing an interest in unique fall hairstyles that you can wear to Thanksgiving. This post by Valentina Arjona has 3 cute and easy hairstyles. My jaw dropped when I saw how Michelle weaved a scarf into her braid in this post. We can’t wait to see you share a favorite hairstyle of yours or learn a new one on Upstyle.
